British standard back boxes are the pressed steel boxes that sit flush in a wall behind a switch, socket or accessory on UK-pattern installations. They are the metal knockout boxes an electrician screws the faceplate onto, sized so that BS-standard accessories fit and the wiring has room behind the plate. The pattern and dimensions are described by BS 4662.
